Dear colleague, prezado(a) colega, querido(a) colega, cher collègue,

Please, find in the attachment the first advertisement of the 5th workshop of the Agrocultures Network with the title “Amazon: Rising Violence and Disturbing Trends”.

The colloquium will take place at Oxford University on 31 Jan and 01 Feb 2020.

On Friday, 31 Jan, we will have influential speakers, distinguished scholars and key leaders of the global movement for the protection of the Amazon Region and respect for the rights of its residents, ecosystems and peoples. On Saturday, 01 Feb, there will an opportunity for academics, researchers and graduate students to give presentations and take part in further debates and talks. Depending on the number of submissions, we may also extend the event to 02 Feb.

The colloquium was designed to stimulate debate and exchange of ideas between three groups of speakers: first, those who live in the Amazon Region and represent its indigenous population, peasant family farmers, riparian groups (ribeirinhos) and other rural and urban inhabitants impacted by mainstream development and environmental degradation. Second, academics from various important universities in Europe, North and South America, who has conducted critical studies on the legacies of colonization and socio-political asymmetries resulting from the ideology of modernity and modernization. Third, policy-makers, diplomats and politicians responsible for the formulation and implementation of public policies and government decisions.
